~ Falling for Blue ~

Hello friends,

I know I've been very bad with my posts, but time is getting even shorter for me from the past few weeks. Do you feel the time is running to fast? By the end of the day I wish we have more hours to accomplish everything I want to. And rest!!!

The good news are:
  1. I SOLD my very first piece of furniture (the picture will be on my side bar)
  2. I FINISHED the cabinet for my "first client"  (which became my second)as well!!!!!
It Feels so good, friends...
When I finally decided to put my first piece for SALE, which I've been postponing (I don't know why),I had to choose which piece I would sale.
So I picked my little desk/chair and posted on kijiji almost two weeks ago, on Saturday night.
Sunday I got first contact and the same person came on Tuesday to pick it up. I explained about the technique of the paint and believe me, the guy really watches those house and home TV shows!
He bought it for his wife and with no doubt, he said she would fall in love with the piece.
Now, I have to finish another desk (it's almost done) to replace that one, and who knows will be gone as fast as the previous one?
This was my first experience selling, and I have to say that I was quite happy, not only because it was a fast sale, but because the person who bought it really liked the job I've done it on that desk. It's a wonderful feeling when the client appreciates your work! For me, that was the best part of the sale!

About "falling for blue?"
Oh my, I just LOVE blue, so I painted this little cabinet in blue and I made the shade of blue myself. A few months ago I bought on the Mistint section a little can for $2.50 in a nice blue, but I wanted lighter, so I kept mixing blue with white, until I got the shade I wanted.
It's fun to make your own shade of paint. I felt like a little kid learning how to mix colors!
Here are the results:

BEFORE the paint:

The cabinet was done from a friend who is taking carpentry course and he made this piece as a project.

After primed and 2 coats of paint, I started distressing it, a little bit here,

and there...
And I can't forget to mention the iron mesh I used, and with the staple gun, I did the job all around;

Here is a picture when I started using the blue over the primer

Volilá mes amis, another project done!
On my next post I'll ask a opinion from you about my kitchen. Yes, I'll finally start painting the cabinets next week. I'm just waiting for the weather to get better so I can enjoy painting outdoors.
I hope you are having a very good week with lots of sunshine in your hearts!
See you soon and enjoy the rest of the week!
Love,

Li

Congratulations on the sale of your pieces - well done! And that blue is just gorgeous. How exciting for you to be painting your kitchen cabinets! Seriously, it was the best thing I've done in a long time, and I'm sure you'll love your new kitchen too. Good luck, and feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions - I'd be only too happy to help if I can. K xx

Hi Li, that is wonderful that you had a fast sale and a happy customer! You did a great job on that cabinet. I love the mesh!

What color are you doing your kitchen. I have finally decided on a color for my cottage cabinets-Martha Stewart Taylors Chalk. I am nervous about the change!

I'm new to your blog. I just read your story. It reminded me of when I had cancer and was having a hard time not knowing what the future would be. I took my daughter on a college searching trip. WHile she stayed at the dorm, I stayed in a B&B. I read, read, prayed, only leaving briefly. It was just what I needed. It was like I had to find my own way of dealing with things. So glad that life is good for me. Oh, I've been cancer free for 20 years. Yeah.

Li!!! You have done an amazing job with that piece, truly!! I'm about to start a couple cabinets myself that I received from a friend for free and I feel a bit overwhelmed...but your post has restored a bit of my confidence so I'm gonna give it a go tomorrow! Well done!

Hi Li!
I just saw your comment, I would LOVE you to mention me, wow, I would be honored! thankyou so much! I had seen that you do like to make cushions too and to be creative around the home; we have lots in common. I also have always loved how you have written ~living a laid back life in the city`. I have always kind of thought of myself as the same! Its great how blogging brings like minded people together, one of the reasons I started blogging was that I have many beautiful friends, but none of them are into the same things as myself (sewing, crafts, decor etc) I am really enjoying the blogworld!
Hugs to you,
Laura xx

Hi Li!

Great job on that charming cabinet! You mixed a perfect shade of blue for it, and adding the wire instead of glass adds so much texture and interest. Just lovely!

I will be happily following your blog!

Dearest Li,

Just read your comment about the Award and visited... It is so true that the time is our ONLY problem. Glad to read the same from several blogger friends. But you did master a great job on the special blue tinted cabinet! For sure, that husband went home with a new found treasure for his love! But isn't that a double reward? Knowing it will be loved and appreciated; all the labor of love from your hands...
By the way my husband and I did visit your beautiful country in the 90s on a trip of 19 days Spain and Portugal; FOND memories and Fatima was very touching too.

Lots of love from Georgia/USA

Wow! How amazing and fun that you had your first sale and client. That sure is exciting. So many of us dream of that! Congratulations dear Li.

I have to echo everyone else by saying that blue is absolutely lovely. I typically don't gravitate toward blues but I could be convinced with a blue as pretty as this one. I love all your projects in this post.
